Petra Design is a full-service interior design firm specializing in timeless and inviting spaces that reflect the personality of its inhabitants. Petra brings 20 years of interior design knowledge to the table, with experience in everything from residences and offices to hotels and restaurants worldwide, working for some of the biggest names in the design industry. We help you take a seemingly overwhelming process, by breaking down the steps and focusing on solutions that match your style and are within your budget (even if you don’t know what your style or budget are yet!). We are experts in projects big and small including full home renovations and ground-up construction.

More likely than not, you’ll find Petra, founder of Petra Design, stapling new fabric on seat cushions, hanging artwork, or nose-deep in CAD drawings. But don’t let the paint-spattered overalls fool you, Petra has 20 years of experience designing luxury hotels, restaurants, and residences worldwide. She honed her skills at several prestigious interior design firms in New York City, including Michael Graves & Associates, Jeffrey Beers International, and Champalimaud Design. She’s worked on notable projects such as the Augusta National Golf Club, St. Regis, Cairo, Fontainebleau, and the St. Regis, Jakarta. Her hands-on approach, coupled with her impressive background, allows Petra to combine her architectural expertise with an interior designer's gift for materials and furnishings. And as a mom of two, she understands how to design a space for maximum stain resistance and longevity.
Petra grew up in Stillwater, Minnesota, and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She received her Interior Design degree from the Interior Designers Institute in Newport Beach, California. She is certified by the National Council for Interior Design (NCIDQ) which is the industry’s recognized indicator of proficiency.
AMELIA HESKETH, designer
Amelia’s love for interior design began as a child, constantly rearranging her bedroom, using allowance to buy new bedding, and fashioning artwork out of magazine covers. Putting her hobby to the side, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and her professional life took the route of working in the mental health field as a Registered Nurse for 15 years. Longing for more creativity in her life, a career change brought her back to where her heart belonged in Interior Design. In Sydney, she made a name for herself in the revival of mid-century homes, carefully blending modern-day functionality with authentic period details. A move to New York offered her a chance to spread her creative wings even further, and she's found her new home at Petra Design Studio.
As a mom of three, Amelia knows all about the complexities and joys of family life. She brings this nuanced understanding to her work, striving to create homes that families are not just proud of, but genuinely enjoy living in. Utilizing texture and color in ways that are both fun and sophisticated, Amelia loves helping her clients turn their houses into homes that they adore.
Amelia holds a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Christchurch Polytechnic in New Zealand and a Certificate IV in Design and Interior Decoration from the International School of Design in Sydney, Australia. Originally hailing from New Zealand, her international experience brings a unique, global touch to every project.
SHAWN NORMAN, designer
Shawn has always had a creative spirit and admiration for the arts. He studied modern and contemporary dance throughout his high school years, inspired by legends like Twyla Tharp, Debbie Allen, Bob Fosse and Alvin Ailey. During college his creativity took a different path, transforming from movement to buildings and their interiors. He earned a degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Hartford. It was there that he developed a critical understanding of how one’s own experience and interaction with a space can have a profound impact on a person’s moods.
Prior to joining Petra Design, Shawn worked for several firms in Westchester and New York City, honing his skills and sharpening his design eye. With a deep love of video games and amusement parks, Shawn brings a dash of whimsy and a heavy dose of fun to each project. And with a favorite color of yellow, who could disagree?
